POSITION: Powder Process Engineer, Hot Press Department

REPORTS TO: Process Engineering Manager

SUMMARY: Participate as a designated metallurgist/materials scientist in the development of new and innovative alloys and manufacturing processes in the hot press department. This unique engineering opportunity involves the exposure to more than half of the elements in the periodic table by taking theoretical design and applying it to real world applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determine the most technically appropriate means to produce exotic high purity alloys using the principles of powder blending and compaction.
  • Design, implement, and monitor process controls for hot axial pressed and hot isostatically pressed products within manufacturing.
  • Design and implement process controls for powder production.
  • Ensure that manufactured products meet all design specifications and customer requirements.
  • Develop and document process specifications and process flow work instructions.
  • Determine raw material needs and specifications for specialized alloys and provide vendor interface relative to raw materials issues.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with the hot press department foreman.
  • Approve bills of material (BOMs) and production routings for use in an MRP/ERP system.
  • Provide technical guidance and training on process techniques to hot press operators and technicians.
  • Assist in the writing and implementation of standard operating procedures outlining manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in providing operator training programs on new equipment and processing techniques.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a process engineer in a manufacturing environment, preferably with a focus on powder compaction and processing techniques.
  • Effective experience in analyzing and developing manufacturing processes including process improvements and a demonstrated track record of measurable improvements.
  • Requires a strong knowledge of statistical techniques and decision making by analyzing data.
  • Demonstrated effective analytical, customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface with all engineering staff on a technical level.
  • Ability to interface with production floor personnel on a daily basis.
  • Ability to successfully perform assignments with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while working within production schedule.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION: B.S.: Materials Science/Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; M.S. a plus

COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
